Acquisition | Special Trait Acquisition | MYOs | Body Types | Idea Permissions
Some limitations are placed on the possibility of creating Edeia and characters that use the Ideas of existing Edeia. This is in part for the sake of exploring more unique concepts across the span of known language and beyond, though there is also a factor that some Ideas are a source of personal comfort that an owner may not wish to share. The current policy is described below, but it may change in the future if it becomes too limiting.
Default permissions: repeat Idea Edeia are "Ask," non-Actualized characters is "Allowed," and Soultwined is "Ask."
Soft limit of Ideas appearing up to three times in the Masterlist, whether as part of a special trait Edeia or as a normal Edeia.
The owner of the oldest Edeia with the Idea has control over the permissions for repeat Ideas, non-Actualized characters, and Soultwined Edeia. Edeia who have their Idea changed to a repeat Idea count as newer.
You may not own multiple Edeia with the same Idea.
If you are struggling to find an Idea or have a concept for an Edeia where the Idea is already taken and prohibits repeats, consider the following:
Use a phrase. For instance, "Faith" and "Leap of Faith" are considered different Ideas.
Use a synonym. Synonyms are not restricted, though if you wish, you may reach out to an owner and check in with them about your character concept. The owner cannot tell you to change your Idea, but you can discuss how to differentiate your characters more dramatically, for instance.
Create a neologism. You can create a word that captures your desired meaning. If you wish, you can ask for help in Auspice's Neologism Cauldron forum.
Note that lore-wise, all Ideas are unique due to how each one is uniquely interpreted by the Edeia; Ideas are named by the Edeia themselves, and names are only a label to the concept. As such, it is possible for multiple Edeia to have the same name for the Idea but have a significantly different interpretation. It is recommended to avoid phrasing such as "the Edeia of [Idea]" that implies they are the only Edeia of that Idea—something that is inaccurate to the lore.
You may create non-Actualized characters with Idea magic. See Ideated Individuals for lore, and Ideated Characters for development tips. They can be added to the Ideated Characters List, found on the Masterlist.
The Ideas of these characters may be:
any Idea that does not currently exist on the masterlist.
Ideas of Edeia that you own.
Ideas of other Edeia on the masterlist that allow non-Actualized characters.
You have no claim to the Idea unless you have the Idea on hold, and that is only temporary. If another Edeia has that Idea, your non-Actualized character would not be allowed to be made into an Edeia unless repeat Ideas are allowed, though you can "shift" the Idea to another if you wish to do so. Additionally, an Edeia may be created without regard to any non-Actualized characters with that Idea.
To change the permissions for your Edeia's Idea, you may send an update via the #ml-updates channel of the Discord server or by directly contacting Auspice.
Currently, the permission is Ask by default.
Allowed: Anyone can create Edeia with the Idea(s) of your Edeia.
Prohibited: No one can create Edeia with the Idea(s) of your Edeia.
Ask: Default. Others must ask you to create an Edeia with the Idea(s) of your Edeia. You may provide preferred contact method if you wish. You can ask the person who wishes to create the Edeia to follow certain guidelines, such as to avoid overlap in character concepts.
For Edeia with Ask permission, after the existing owner of the Edeia approves the creation of another Edeia with their Idea, the individual seeking to use that Idea must contact Auspice and provide proof, such as a screenshot of conversation. Preferably, they should also present rationale for why they want to use that Idea rather than a synonym or similar concept.
There are three options, which will be indicated in the "Non-Actualized Characters" column of the masterlist:
Allowed: Default. Anyone can create non-Actualized characters using the Idea.
Prohibited: No one except you, the owner of the Edeia, can create non-Actualized characters using the Idea.
Ask: Others must ask you to use the Idea of their Edeia for a non-Actualized character. You must provide a preferred contact method for this that will be linked or otherwise indicated in the cell.
Ideas may be considered differently in the context of another Idea. If someone owns an Edeia with a particular Idea, that individual can set permissions for use of that Idea in a Soultwined set or a single Edeia (if the Idea exists only in their Soultwined).
There are three options, which will be indicated in the "Soultwined Permissions" column of the masterlist:
Allowed: Anyone can create a Soultwined/Edeia with the Idea(s) of your Edeia.
Prohibited: No one except you, the owner of the Edeia, can create a Soultwined/Edeia with the Idea(s) of your Edeia.
Ask: Default. Others must ask you to use the Idea(s) of your Edeia. I recommend providing a preferred contact method for this that will be linked or otherwise indicated in the cell. If someone asks you for permission, you can make it conditional, i.e. ask to be involved in the character development and such. You may not request any payment, whether in the form of money, commissions, designs, etc.
